Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about The Safe Sippy cups.

How big is The Safe Sippy Cup?

The Safe Sippy cup holds 330ml (11 ounces) of liquid and weighs only 140 grams (5 ounces). It is 197mm (7.75 inches) high, 66mm (2.6 inches) in diameter and 108mm (4.25 inches) wide with the handles on.

Is the Safe Sippy insulated?

The sippy cup is a single walled non-insulated stainless steel bottle. By making it single walled, the cup is lighter and it holds more liquid. The outer sleeve does offer some insulation but more importantly it prevents direct contact with the stainless steel bottle which can get cold.

Can I wash my Safe Sippy in the dishwasher?

The Safe Sippy Cup can be washed in the dishwasher as long as it is placed on the top rack only. It is recommended that the valve be hand washed separately because of its size.

What is the best way to hand wash my Safe Sippy cup?

The best way to hand wash The Safe Sippy Cup is to use a mild dish soap and warm water or. for a more eco-friendly approach, you can use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Do not use any abrasives, bleaches or products that contain chlorine.

Does the protective sleeve need to be removed when washing the sippy cup?

The sleeve can stay on when either hand washing the Safe Sippy cup or using the dishwasher. You should, however, remove and wash it occasionally to avoid any dirt buildup on the bottle.

How do I remove the sleeve to clean it then put it back on?

To remove the sleeve, wet the cup (use soapy water if you are having problems) and the sleeve should slide off easily. Clean the outside of the stainless steel cup and the inside of the sleeve and allow them to air dry.

To get the sleeve back on first turn the sleeve inside out. Align the inside bottom of the protective sleeve with the bottom of the stainless steel cup then carefully roll the sleeve over the stainless steel cup.

Can I use my SAFE Sippy cup for hot beverages?

The Safe Sippy is not designed to hold hot beverages. Since the bottle is not insulated, any heat from the contents of the bottle will quickly heat up the bottle and can cause burns. Please do not use the sippy cup for hot beverages.

Can I use The Safe Sippy Cup for carbonated beverages?

Do not put carbonated beverages in the Safe Sippy cup. The carbonation can cause pressure to build up inside the cup and the spout may leak as a result.

Is The Safe Sippy Cup microwavable?

No. The bottle is made of stainless steel and should never be put in the microwave.

Is the Safe Sippy Cup lined like aluminum bottles?

The Safe Sippy Cup bottle is made completely of stainless steel which, unlike aluminum, does not require any plastic protective coating.

What plastic is used in The Safe Sippy cup?

All plastic used in The Safe Sippy is the #5 polypropylene type which is considered safe. The plastic that concerns people (ie. leaching of BPA) is #7. The plastic is tested and certified to be free of BPA and phthalates. There is no latex used in The Safe Sippy and the sleeve is made of Thermoplastic Rubber.

How do I reinstall the gasket o-ring?

On the inside of the Safe Sippy cup there is a translucent rubbery ring that seals the bottle and prevents leaking. You can remove this ring when you want to clean the inside of the cap. To replace the ring, make sure that the rounded side of the ring goes into the cap with the flat part of the ring facing out. Press fit it into the slot so that it is seated securely. Where do I get replacement valves or gaskets for my Safe Sippy cup?

The manufacturer is planning to offer valve and gasket replacement packs in the Fall of 2008. To arrange for a replacement immediately, contact the manufacturer at info@kidbasix.com.

Is it possible to purchase spare or replacement caps for The SAFE Sippy cup?

Cap replacements are also expected to be available in the latter part of 2008.

Where is The Safe Sippy cup made?

The Safe Sippy cup is made by an American company called Kid Basix. The manufacturing of the cup is done in China under tight quality control in an ISO certified factory. The product is tested by an independent lab to make sure it meets FDA and European child safety standards.

Is it normal to have some water drip from the spout?

Normally the spout should be spill free. It is possible that a few drops of water come out when the cup is turned upside down. If the valve were to be made completely drip-proof it would make it difficult for a child to drink from the sippy cup.
