Why are stainless steel bottles better than aluminum?
When you buy a Klean Kanteen bottle, it is made of stainless steel only. Aluminum bottles require a coating on the inside to make sure that aluminum does not come in direct contact with your beverage. The coating is usually an epoxy or ceramic. These coatings could wear off or crack after prolonged use, exposing the aluminum.
Aluminum bottles, although lighter, are more prone to denting. Stainless steel, being more resilient, will provide you with a more durable bottle.

What warranty does Klean Kanteen offer?
All Klean Kanteen bottles come with a one year warranty against manufacturing defects.
Can I put acidic beverages such as orange juice in my Klean Kanteen?
Klean Kanteens are made from non-reactive food grade stainless steel and will not react to acidic beverages.
Is it safe to put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
The Klean Kanteen is single walled which means that there is only one layer of stainless steel. If you put hot liquids into the bottle, the bottle itself will heat up and you could get burned.
What is the best way to clean my Klean Kanteen Bottle?
The best way to wash a Klean Kanteen bottle is with a mild dish soap and warm water. Air dry the bottle with the cap off. The stainless steel bottles are dishwasher safe but the caps should be hand washed. For Kolor bottles, we recommend hand washing as well to prevent any fading of the color on the bottle.
Can I put my Klean Kanteen in the freezer?
Putting a Klean Kanteen in the freezer can damage the bottle and is not recommended. When liquids freeze they expand. This can create enough force to warp or crack the bottle. To make sure your beverage is cold, it is best to just add ice cubes. Klean Kanteen bottles are designed with a wide mouth (1.75 inches - 44 mm) to fit most ice cubes.
Are Klean Kanteen bottles heavy?
Many people wonder whether the Klean Kanteen bottles are heavy because they are made of stainless steel. They are often surprised as to how light they actually are. A 12 ounce bottle weighs only 4 ounces. Klean Kaneen bottles have been designed to optimize the strength versus weight ratio so that they are light yet durable and don't dent easily.
Klean Kanteen manufactures their bottles in China? Is that safe?
Largely for economic reasons, most water bottles are made in China. Klean Kanteen has an extensive quality control program in place to ensure the safety of the stainless steel bottles.
The company visits the factory 4 to 5 times a year and performs an audit every six months to ensure that all their quality criteria are being met. This includes:
- Quality of materials used
- Ethical treatment of factory workers
- Environmental standards are respected
- Health and safety (including child labor issues) are followed
The Klean Kanteen company also does random sample destructive testing of the bottles. Samples are sent to an independant U.S. lab where the composition of the bottle is tested to make sure they meet company specifications, are free of lead and do not leach any harmful substances.
Does the Klean Kanteen bottle fit in my car cup holder?
All the Klean Kanteen bottles up to the 27 ounce size will fit in most car cup holders as well as bottle holders on most gym equipment. The 12 oz., 18 oz., and 27 oz. bottles are all 2.75 inch (70mm) in diameter.
